I read this story for the first time in a book by Ted Roberts titled Pure Desire. For me this story epitomizes my own.

My addiction was extremely secretive. Nobody close to me knew that I was engaged in the behaviors that I was actually engaged in. In fact, most would have adamantly defended that I wasn’t involved in the secret behaviors.

My addiction would consume my mind even when I was not actively acting out. I would think: How could I continue to keep my secret hidden? Did I cover all my tracks?

The devastation my addiction caused soon became so horrible in my marriage that it mirrored that of the prince and his rampage of torching houses.

I knew I needed to get honest and I wanted my punishment for my actions to be swift. However, I had a lot to learn and behaviors to change.

God opened his arms just as the King did in this story. And since I was ready to be honest He placed others in my life that had already started on their path to recovery. I never knew there were so many other men desiring freedom from their sexually addictive behaviors…just like the prince did not know there were others who had ridden the dragon.

The story closes as follows:
“The King embraced them all. ‘This is our most powerful weapon against the dragon,’ he announced.
‘Truth. No more hidden flights. Alone we cannot resist him.’”

Without a doubt the only way I will continue to stay sober from my sexually addictive behaviors is to stay honest and keep connected to others desiring recovery.
